A traceability record that follows each batch from farm to shelf, with a public verification page behind every product QR code.
Concept project — no real client. Created to show how we would approach this kind of product.
Overview
Provenance Trace imagines a cooperative of farms selling premium produce to retailers who want proof of origin. Several independent organisations handle each batch, so no single party's database is trusted by all.
The problem
Retailers and export buyers ask for proof that a batch came from certified farms and stayed within cold-chain limits. Paper certificates are easy to copy and hard to check.
Our solution
Each handover — harvest, grading, transport, delivery — is signed by the responsible partner and anchored to a shared ledger. Shoppers and buyers scan a QR code to see the batch's verified journey without needing an account or a wallet.
User journey
The farm records the harvest and receives a batch QR label.
Each partner scans the batch and signs its step in the partner portal.
Step records are hashed and anchored on-chain; documents are stored off-chain.
A buyer or shopper scans the QR code and sees each verified step.
If a step is missing or late, the portal highlights it for follow-up.

Key features
Each partner signs only the steps they are responsible for.
A mobile page anyone can open from the QR code — no wallet needed.
Certificates and photos stored off-chain with on-chain fingerprints.
Farms, processors, carriers, and retailers each have scoped permissions.
Late or missing steps are flagged to the cooperative.
A printable batch history for buyers who need paperwork.
Approach
The public page was designed for a shopper standing in an aisle: a clear verified/unverified state first, details second, and no blockchain jargon.
Minimal smart contracts record step fingerprints and partner roles; everything else lives in a conventional application. Contracts are tested and prepared for independent review before any mainnet deployment.
More work
An operations dashboard that unifies orders, stock, and invoices so a growing distributor can stop reconciling spreadsheets.
Appointment booking and live queue updates for outpatient clinics, so patients wait at home rather than in the corridor.
A fresh-produce storefront with delivery slots, substitutions, and an admin that the store team updates themselves.
